we need at least this for now: 4 Daggers, we have 2 good ones, and a crappy blue one. 4-6 blue swords or more. we have 1 crappy one and one illegal one that doesnt count. 2 reds. at least id say. only for the semi in control lol. 2 javies at least. we need us some javies! I agree that we need to restock the armory. We can wait until everyone settles in this fall and then start choosing people for positions of authority. The Quartermaster should probably be someone who has his own dorm room, shares a dorm room with someone who fights (so there's no annoyance at the space being occupied), or someone who lives off-campus. The problem there is that if he can't make it to a practice, it's a little harder for someone else to get the supplies to practice. But on topic... Daggers - I thought there were four little green daggers? Where are the other two? There is at least one football in that box you have. Did I leave a Funnoodle? Daggers are a piece of cake with Funnoodle and those little footballs. Blues - I built eight Blues this spring; all they need now is covers. I can have those covered and in SH by the time school starts this Fall. Reds - I have some materials, if you have the time and space to build them. Javelins - I'm going to order some HDOC (high-density open cell) from McMaster-Carr for community weapons and for my own stash. If you want some for yourself, let me know so I can adjust the order. We also need some shields. MM lacked shields for the first two years, and when the Olympics II rolled around, we were steamrolled by anybody with a shield because we not only lacked that protection, we had no experience fighting against shields. There is a place near Northern Eryndor that carries a 24"x108" (2 feet by 9 feet) sheet of foam for $40. That's three 2x3 shields for $13 each. Add a bit of blue foam around the edges, a cover, and a piece of pipe for a handle, and you're looking at around $20 for a shield, which most people would gladly pay. We could have it shipped for $63, which would raise the price by about $8. If someone were willing to make the four-hour drive, I would gladly accompany you and front the money. We could make a few community shields, and then sell the rest. We'd sell the foam for $15 or the completed shields for $25. I'm sure there are other options, and I'll contact Oron to see what he pays for his shield foam, but this is definitely an option, and I wanted to put it out there. Alric

Ah yes, I was just talking for the summer but that shield foam is making me drool.
There were only two in my bag (daggers) and I do remember us having 4. How much is that high desity foam going for?
As for quatermaster, I agree with it being someone who lives with someone that fights that way if one person cant make it the other person can bring the weapons. Or at least be there for us to pick them up.
On the whole armory topic tho, I thought about it. It seems that mittelmarch doesnt have an armory or community pile. People just bring thier weapons and if someone needs one they ask if they can borrow. It seems this meathod makes people make thier own weapons to bring to practice because if they dont they have to borrow someone elses.

You're right that MM has a slightly different system, in which all of the community weapons have broken, and rather than donating new weapons to the community pile, people are simply offering some or most of their personal weapons to borrow. But SH is not MM, and we need to run things differently.
The vast majority of MMers are experienced fighters, or are playing because they know someone who is. So while loaning a weapon still includes the risk that it will get broken, that risk is lessened. The majority of SH fighters are new and many have never even heard of the game; they're just stopping by to check us out. Having community weapons with no sentimental value to anyone allows us to loan weapons with less worry about losing a favored weapon. And the YBIYBI policy ensures we don't have new people carelessly breaking our weapons with no recompense.
We've discussed multiple options to keep people from relying on the community pile, and I think we all agree that we don't want people to mooch for weeks or months. After a certain number of practices, I think we should require people to make an attempt at garb, and either provide their own weapon or rent one from the pile. One of the ways they can acquire a weapon is by purchasing one of the community weapons, and the proceeds from that sale will be used to fund more weapons and other SH community items.

Alric Good points. That sounds good but it still requires a contribution from somthing to make the community pile, which involves its members deciding/finding some sort of funding. Also, when/where you getting that shield foam? I think im going to get two chunks, one for a punch and another for a back shield.

I haven't spoken with Oron yet to see if his foam source is cheaper. I'll write him today.
I'm in the middle of a move, so I'm budgeting. So middle or end of July, I'm thinking.
