Since the inception of our Chapter, it has been our hope to divide the many responsibilities of Chapter leadership among multiple members. This system of leadership provides many benefits:
1. No one member is overwhelmed with responsibility. This is especially important because this is a college-based Chapter, and our members are almost all busy with schoolwork.
2. By narrowing someone's area of responsibility, you give him the freedom to improve that area, which benefits the Realm as a whole.
3. More members can be involved in leading the Realm, which gives people more motivation. Knowing he can be involved changes a member's attitude toward an activity.
4. Leadership changes have a much smaller impact on the Realm. This is vital because our membership and leadership will change often, as people move into and out of Muncie, and become more or less busy with school.
There are other benefits, of course, and a few downsides, too, but this still seems like the way to organize our Chapter.

I have a few ideas for leadership positions:
Head Herald - The Head Herald should be an experienced fighter and herald. He must be confident, loud, and stubborn. His job is to run practices and ensure all rules are followed. He will train others to herald.
Head Weapons Checker - The Head Weapons Checker should be an experienced fighter and weapons checker. He must be confident and stubborn (loud is optional). His job is to check all weapons at the beginning of each practice, to ensure the safety of all members. He will train others to check weapons properly.
Recruiter - The Recruiter needs to have great people skills. His job is to post fliers and hold demonstrations throughout the year. The Recruiter should look for good times and places for demonstrations, to bring more people into the game.
Drill Sergeant - The Drill Sergeant should be a patient person with experience in all weapon styles. His job is to train new players to fight safely. He will train them in the basics of Single Blue, and keep an eye out for unsafe practices. Once a fighter has fought safely for two practices, the Drill Sergeant will teach him the restricted weapons.
Armorer - The Armorer should be an experienced weaponsmith. His job is to store and repair the community weapons, and get them to all practices.
Archivist - The Archivist should be a responsible, organized person. His job is to track all paperwork for the Realm, including the Chapter Contract, waivers, and contact info for all members.
Webmaster - The webmaster is responsible for maintaining the Chapter website and message boards. When Stormhaven holds an event, it is his job to spread the word to as many other groups as possible.
Comments, questions, and suggestions are not only welcome, they're encouraged! Do you have an idea for another position?

I was thinking...we should stick to period titles for the leadership positions...
*************
Rendon was a young man of about eighteen summers who had been pulled into The Land during a trip into town for supplies. His parents would be furious, then probably worried. For the moment, neither was his concern. He was laying at the crest of a hill, looking down upon a small, walled-in settlement nestled against a mountain, with a river running just to the south. He decided to give himself to Fate, and walked into the town.
"Welcome!" He was immediately greeted. "Welcome to Stormhaven! Are you new to The Land?" The questioner was a tall man with long, black hair and bright clothing colored green and red.
"I think so. Where am I?" The garishly clothed man, who called himself Jengai, explained about this strange world as he led Rendon into a large building, which Rendon recognized as a meeting hall of some sort.
"So, young man...are you ready to join us in the fight against evil?" Jengai's story had been so compelling, Rendon simply couldn't refuse. "Wonderful! Come visit Archivist Warble."
The two entered a small room connected to the meeting hall, where a large man with spectacles sat poring over a small collection of books. "New?" he asked without looking up. Rendon nodded, and Warble reached across the table he was using as a desk for a large book and a pen. He asked Rendon so many questions, the young man had barely answered one before the next was on the Archivist's lips. Finally, the Archivist sprinkled a pinch of sand across the page and said, "See the Armorer...he'll fix you right up."
Rendon followed the directions he was given, and entered a smaller building, which he saw was full of weapons and equipment. There he encountered Aidnn, a tall man with a shield strapped to his back and a spear in his hand. "Let me see that," he said gruffly as he pointed to the family sword strapped to the young man's hip. Rendon unsheathed the thing and handed it to Aidnn, who ran his hands and eyes all along it. "Bah!" He tossed the sword aside, "that's a piece of junk! Quartermaster! Get this man something more suitable."
A heavy man with a sword at his hip stepped around a shelf and addressed Rendon, "What can I help you with? What's your preference?" He showed Rendon every kind of weapon he'd ever heard of, and some he hadn't. Rendon settled on a short sword and a round shield. Thorand pulled a red tabard over Rendon's head with a strange symbol in the middle, and gave him directions to the training grounds.
At the training grounds, Rendon met Master-at-Arms Raban, a big man with a large beard and a huge sword. Raban put him through the paces for two weeks, and Rendon felt like a new man. Finally, the Drill Sergeant told him he was ready, and he was taken back to the large meeting hall. Raban led him through the door next to the Archivist's study, where two men stood studying a map.
"Young Rendon, meet Magistrate Alric, whose job is to maintain peace and order. He oversees justice in our little town." Alric was a thick, hairy man, with sword hilts sticking up over either shoulder. He smiled warmly as he clasped Rendon's arm.
"It's good to finally meet you," he said. "I've watched you at the training grounds; you have promise." Rendon grinned at the praise as the Master-at-Arms introduced the other man.
"Rendon, meet Steward Zalos, our leader and commander." Zalos was a lean man with a quiver over one shoulder and a short sword at his hip. He inclined his head and spoke softly.
"I've heard about you from Alric and Raban. It is good to have you with us. Are you ready for your first mission?"
*************
This story does not reflect the positions to which anyone may be appointed. (At the moment, Zalos is the Realm Leader and I am the Head Herald, and the rest will be decided next semester.) I merely inserted real names to make it easier to visualize.
Here's the updated list:
Steward - Realm leader. Responsible for appointing leaders, scheduling practices, and keeping contact with BSU officials.
Magistrate - Head Herald. Runs practices and makes all on-field rule decisions.
Armorer - Head Weapons Checker. Passes or fails all weapons before they are allowed on the field.
Quartermanster - Stores and distributes all Stormhaven community weapons and equipment.
Master-at-Arms - Trains new players to fight safely, and decides when they may access the restricted weapons.
Archivist - Tracks all legal paperwork for the Realm and maintains updated contact lists.
I can't think of a good title for Recruiter. The name itself works just fine, but it'd be cool to have another title, if we can come up with one.
I don't think we need a name for the webmaster, as there's no real storyline tie-in for the position, but if someone wants to come up with one, great!

Ooooo...I like it. Let's try to find more (and feel free to find new versions of the ones I already named), but use that until we get a better one.
