Came across this addition to a typical sword design www.angelfire.com/realm2/alcon/stabtip.htmlAnyone have any experience doing something like this? From a fighting style standpoint I would much prefer to have a combination hacking/stabbing weapon. My question is, how realistic is this design from a durability standpoint. They're not DAPing the last layer of blue foam to the HDOC, which kind of worries me when it comes to slicing and having the HDOC shift around inside. I know these weapons aren't meant to be passed down to my grandkids but I would like it to last a good number of battles. Any opinions?

Stabbing tips greatly reduce the life expectancy of a weapon generally, because it makes a weak point in the sword. I've seen non stabby weapons last anywhere from a month to a few years depending on construction. Most of the stabby weapons I have seen have to either be repaired or remade after a few months tops, if nothing else but to replace the stabbing foam. Having the stabby tip is really nice but you have to really know what you're doing with it. Also, from what I understand a lot of stabbing tips don't end up passing at big events, or so I've heard. I hope I helped.

Yeah, I've been thinking it over a bit since I posted. I plan on fighting primarily florentine, which was part of the appeal of an easier one-shot kill. I would like for my weapons to last as long as possible, and quite frankly with duel wielding I think I should be able to get fast and precise enough with either hand that I won't gain much from a stabbing tip. It would be nice to have the stabbing tip but I'm not convinced when it significantly reduces the life of my weapon.
However, if anyone has any hints on a significantly more durable way to add a stabbing tip (heck, just even more durable building techniques for a normal blue!) I would be interested.
